Standard English Questions

1. When a person speaks or writes in Standard English, what exactly does that mean?
 
When a person speaks Standard English it most likely means that they are reciting the most basic english known to humanity.

2. How do you think this particular variety of English became the standard?

 

   THroughout the history the english language has gone through many changes. With these changes people have become more and more use to the more simpilistic forms of english and that has stuck with them for years. Carrying it on from generation to generation.

3. Should a student use a dialect other than Standard English (or even a different language other than English altogether) in the classroom? If so, in what particular situations (speaking, writing, reading, use of technology, etc.) are non-formal English appropriate?

   I dont believe that a student should be required to use any other dialect than the one he/she already uses. That would be shaping the student up into a different person as well as altering their individuality.

4. What makes someone a good writer? What kind of things do they do when they write? (this can be things like how they organize a paper, what words they use, etc.) List a few.

A good writer is someone that can keep the reader engaged into the paper with everlasting interest. Brainstorming is also a key element to being a good writer although its not neccesarily essential.

5. You think that someone is a bad writer. What are some things that this person does that make them a “bad” writer in your eyes? List a few.

Writing a paper for the wrong reasons.(Ex: Using the paper to show off your vocabulary but not for engaging the reader) Completely borrowing the ideas of someone else's design and not making it their own.

6. Are there times when a person you meet doesn’t speak “correct” English? What does that person do that is “incorrect”? List a few things.

  Cut off words so it doesnt take as long to say it. Create new defintions for words. Turn nouns into verbs.

7. What particular types (or genres) of writing should students be doing in elementary and secondary school to prepare them for college and the work force?

  They should be taught how to be an orginal writer by teaching various forms of writing. They should be shown that one way isnt always the best and that it can go both ways when trying to engage the reader.

8. Does standard English=correct English?

This all depends on the person, some believe that standard english is a curse and people who speak it are uneducated.

They wouldn't like it nor would they understand it.  

Factors in CHAT

Production: Pencils , Paper, Knowledge of previously read articles, knowledge of well-known newspapers, computer, writing skills.

Representation: Brainstormed and looked at various forms of articles inside of magazines, newspapers, and online journals.

Distribution: The article is given to my English Professor for a grade using a computer typing product. If it were to be posted on my blog then it would be for anyone to see for the sake of informing my fellow classmates as well as friends.
 
Reception: Depending on the person, the article can be taken up in various ways such as, they can take up this information and be more cautious about how they are spending their money or they could completely shove this aside and label this as irrelevant t their life.

The article originated the day the assignment and the instructions were given. It moved out into the world when I turned in my assignment to my English Professor.

So far only I and the people I have interviewed have read my article but as of Friday it will be open to anyone.
Anyone that shows any interest in learning about the way tuition affects college students everyday life.
The reader might take the text seriously and start doing things to prevent themselves from being the victim in the equation. Then there are those who might shrug it all off and not believe a single penny of it.
The article could be posted on the internet for the entire virtual world to see, or it can be distributed by reading it to others.
Someone could go as far as to branch off of what i wrote to make a book and inform people.
The article definitely challenges the government and the colleges that students are applying to but at the same time supports scholarship organizations.

              

Half Way through Blog

The overall experience of being in a English 101 class so far has been a pleasant and interesting one. The progression I’ve made, in the early stages of class has helped me become a more observant person when it comes to different genres. The group assessments that we do in class, and the blog assignments that occupy our time out of class, balance each other out efficiently and create a neat learning experience. I didn’t quite get the lesson p\at first but with some group work and some guidance I am finally starting to get the hang of this class.

Overall structure of the text

Organized in a fashion where the factual and important information is placed at the very top and as they go along, the information gets more and more uninspiring. (Used to increase interest into the paper)

Language Use: Word choice/sentence choice/etc.

Using an advanced vocabulary meaning big words for maximum credulity. (attempts to prove to the reader that this is possibly a true crisis)

Style/Tone

A passive aggressive tone at throughout the entire paper so that the reader wont feel the opinions are extremely biased.

Content

About the changes in acceptances into colleges and universities due to unaffordable scholarships and nonnegotiable tuition.

Visual Aspects

Side by side comparison of tuition between different schools as well as acceptance rates between different universities and college.

The key audience is to the student in college and the student going into college. The government is the organization that ca change something like this to better the future of some of the students in America.
